Queen of Sorrows
Short Bio --- Born in Roman-era Caledonia, the future named Queen of Sorrows was from the Picts. At age 25 in AD 135, her village was burned to the ground by the Romans in retaliation for the Picts attack on a Roman patrol North of Hadrian's Wall. The sole survivor, the Roman soldiers left her battered & tortured as a "warning" to other Picts for attacks on Romans. Left tied to a huge rock with many of the village's dead gathered by the Romans at her feet, the woman anguished throughout the night hours. Her village burning behind her and the dead bodies of her village & family now becoming food for wild animals (and now even herself becoming subject to the wild beasts for food, but she kicked them away best she could), the woman swore revenge against the Romans for all eternity, not resting until each Roman man, woman, and child felt the pain that she felt this day with her whole village killed. Evil, it seemed, heard her oath of revenge and magically, she was freed from her imprisonment. Becoming the utter embodiment of vengeance & evil on earth, the Queen of Sorrows became a master of Dark Magic and, in particular, mind control. She embarked on a path of unleashing her vengeance with terrible results against the Romans, earning her the nickname of Queen of Sorrows for the loss of her village. Commanding hordes of Picts, she attacked Roman military patrols, ransacked Roman civilian settlements, and even at moments attacked Hadrian's Wall itself in daring hit & run attacks for 2 years. What survivors she left were, like her years prior, "warning signs" to the Romans of their mistake. Finally cornered by superior Roman military strength, the dark witch meet her challenge as the Romans had an ace up their own sleeve: Tyr Valkyria. Finally capturing the witch named Queen of Sorrows, Tyr imprisoned her into the Medallion of Secrets, locked by magic of only a male Valkyrie could unlock (but Tyr didn't count on the witch's ability to still use mind control on those who touched the medallion). Another side effect was that the Medallion of Secrets gave the witch part of a Valkyrie's long life and other abilities, like hiding her presence from the Valkyrie King if trapped inside the Medallion. The Valkyrie King entrusted the Medallion of Secrets to human hands; the King oversaw the Medallion's safe keeping with the Romans and kept a careful eye on it's whereabouts. With the fall of the Roman control in Britain in AD 410, the Medallion of Secrets was lost during the retreat. Or so it seemed. Roughly 9 months after the formation of The Valiant Few in 1530, Giovanni Salzano the Traveling Mercenary & Silas were the sole survivors of a mission gone horribly wrong to recover the legendary Medallion of Secrets for the French King Francis I of France. Of 100 mercenaries, Salzano thought he was the sole survivor (although Silas would survive as well, unknown to Giovanni). It has been assumed that the Queen of Sorrows had somehow been temporarily released from her imprisonment---which allowed Tyr Valkyria to track the witch down later on---and she had killed all the mercenaries in bloody vengeance. Although she was soon trapped back inside the Medallion, the Queen of Sorrows would then live out a new existence inside Giovanni's mind. Towards the end of the events for the The Valiant Few and The Medallion of Secrets (2018), the Medallion of Secrets' location is largely unknown. |
